Entering her junior year, Ella Claire Sadauskas is excited for her third year on The Sentry staff. As the Photo Editor, this year presents many new exciting opportunities for Sadauskas. Her experience in the class has been nothing but memorable so far, and she can’t wait to take the lead this year with photography.
“I think I’ve grown a lot with this class and photography, because it’s helped me go out into the Arlington community and to be able to take pictures,” Sadauskas said.
Photography is an important part of Sadauskas’ life. For as long as she can remember, she has been around cameras and has long been the subject of her family’s photos. In fact, her mom is where Sadauskas draws her inspiration and passion for photography from.
“My mom’s a pretty big photographer and she was always taking pictures when I was little and I just always found it super interesting,” Sadauskas said.
When she is not in school or taking photos, you can find Sadauskas working at a local pool and taking part in school activities.
“I like to hang out with friends. I work as a lifeguard at Army Navy in the summer and I’m now working at Tuckahoe as a lifeguard for the indoor season. I also manage wrestling,” Sadauskas said.
Sadauskas spends her free time curled up with a good movie. Her favorites are classic rom-coms, although she also enjoys watching mysteries and horror movies.
“My favorite movies are either Notting Hill or Love Actually. Those are my two favorites,” Sadauskas said.
Although superhero movies are not her favorites, Sadauskas would like to have the power of flight if she could.
“Probably flight because I think it could be pretty cool. I wouldn’t have to pay for plane tickets,” Sadauskas said.
This power would be very useful in Sadauskas’ life as travel is something else that interests the photographer. When asked where the coolest place she had ever visited was, she answered with excitement.
“I think the coolest place I’ve ever been was Iceland. I went to the blue lagoon, the natural hot spring, and I got to see the Northern Lights…. I loved it so much,” Sadauskas said.
Sadauskas radiates positive energy. If she was an emoji, Sadauskas would be one of the many smiling ones, which accurately represents her personality. We are excited to see everything she does this year on The Sentry.

Avery Ryder is a junior reporter that cannot wait for her first year on The Yorktown Sentry. She can’t wait to improve her writing skills and publish articles for people to read.
“[I’m looking forward to] writing articles and I’m excited to learn from other people,” Ryder said.
Ryder eagerly applied to The Sentry after hearing about all the enjoyment that members of the class have.
“Scarlett [The Sentry’s News Editor] is one of my best friends, and she always talked about how much fun she had in this class, and I really like writing … so I just thought it would be really fun,” Ryder said.
However, when it comes to her favorite class, she loved her freshman year history.
“My favorite class that I’ve ever taken was probably Mr. Obetts’ history class. That was so fun; he’s such a good teacher, and I love history. He made it fun and interesting,” Ryder said.
Outside of school, Ryder plays for our school’s volleyball team and spends time reading.
“Right now, I’m reading this book called A Year Abroad and it’s a Pulitzer Prize. It’s so good, it’s just about this kid who goes to college, who does a year abroad in Asia and all around which is really cool.”
This summer, Ryder worked at Upton Hills as a lifeguard and traveled to Africa.
“I went bungee jumping [in Africa] and that was the most amazing thing I’ve ever done, so it sticks out because of the adrenaline that I felt,” Ryder said.
Her favorite place in the whole world is Hawaii, where her grandparents live. However, if she was able to travel anywhere, she would go to Thailand.
“I really want to go because I want to go to one of those elephant sanctuaries,” Ryder said.
Ryder’s favorite musicians are Taylor Swift, the Lumineers and Noah Kahan. Ryder looks up to Swift as a role model.
“She’s so inspirational, and I like that she always stands up for herself even though the whole entire internet is against her,” Ryder said.
Her opinions on social media shine through when asked about advice she would give to future generations.
“I would tell them, don’t worry about what other people think about you, and social media obviously is really constricting in what we think about other people,” Ryder said.
Ryder has a very strong optimistic and adventurous personality. With her unique love of purple and unicorns, she will fit right into The Yorktown Sentry.
