One of the most prominent sports at our school right now is track and field. From distance runners to sprinters to throwers and jumpers, this sport has something for everyone. Our school has both indoor and outdoor track teams that compete at a number of meets throughout their seasons.
This year, the indoor track team attended the district, regionals and state championships. One athlete in particular, sophomore Molly Hardwick, currently holds numerous school records: the indoor Track and Field 4×800 and 3200 record, the cross country 5k record and the outdoor Track and Field Castle invitational mile record.
Hardwick’s track journey began when she was a freshman at our school. She originally joined the indoor track and field team to get in shape for lacrosse. However, she ended up really enjoying it.
“I ended up being on the state 4×8 team my freshman year which I think was a really good experience,” Hardwick said.
Despite making the lacrosse team later on in her freshman year, Hardwick still wanted to join our school’s outdoor track and field team. She eventually decided to be on both teams, attending every track meet she could.
“I ended up getting some pretty good times. I got state qual in the 800 and the mile and the 4×8,” Hardwick said.
Hardwick also attended numerous meets this school year as a sophomore. She participated in cross country, indoor track and field and currently outdoor track and field. For cross country, she made it to districts and states. For indoor, she made it to districts, regions and states. To achieve this success, Hardwick has a strategic training plan.
“I’ve been running 30 to 40 miles a week and I don’t normally take off days but I do every once and awhile,” Hardwick says.
Hardwick has been extremely consistent to get to this level. She tries to keep up her stamina and push herself to run the full workout or run.
“It’s better to have stacked consistent days of training and consistency over time [because that] is what’s gonna get you far,” Hardwick says.
Hardwick has been working hard since her first indoor track and field season during her freshman year. She is now currently training and running many different running events representing our school. She is a determined runner who is very passionate about doing her best, and we’re excited to see what she accomplishes in the future.
