Goodbye Ms. McCarron!

Goodbye Ms. McCarron!

The efficiency and success of the student body runs on an adept team of staff. Our school would not function the way it does without every faculty member doing their part. Things change, however, when team members find new opportunities outside of our school’s system. A notable example of this is Virginia McCarron, formerly Maloney, who holds quite the substantial role in our special education department.

McCarron’s unique position as a math focused educator makes her work one-of-a-kind. Specifically, there are not many in her field doing what she does. Our staff is forever grateful not only for the impact she’s made on her students as an educator, but also on our school as an extraordinary human.

Our staff is especially grateful for McCarron’s presence through her extravagant journey. She began with a math major teaching in an office building. After a medical accident, she began volunteering at our school. She was soon shadowing math blocks, and she found great interest in assisting the students who required more attention.

Here, she has proudly transformed it into an inclusive, positive environment for kids with time management and learning disabilities. While she teaches all levels, she mentions her favorites being Algebra II and Geometry.

“I think that I have created a really great geometry program for kids who struggle with math and with chunking it,” McCarron said.

However, leaving our school’s community seems to be bittersweet for McCarron, and understandably so. Losing an important member of our staff with such a unique specialty will be a tragedy for our school, as well as our community.

“I will miss the people. 100 percent,” McCarron said.

While sad to be leaving, McCarron has bright plans for the future. She looks to spend her next years instructing at secondary school HB Woodlawn. McCarron will continue into the special education field with an open mind and excitement, while also leaving room for plenty of new possibilities.

“I have no idea [what the HB Woodlawn math department will look like],” McCarron said.

HB Woodlawn is lucky to be receiving such a brilliant educator. We will miss McCarron, yet know that she will do great things in the future. If she ever wants to return back to Yorktown, she is always welcomed back with open arms. Good luck Ms. McCarron!
