Welcome back! This issue will highlight three hilarious podcasts that everyone should listen to. All three podcasts are hosted by renowned comedians as they talk about how comedy has impacted their lives.

Curious– “Ep.1: John Stamos”

Comedian Josh Peck has always been curious about the lives people live and those whose experiences differ from  his own. His curiosity and love for conversations that seek discomfort led the star to start his fairly new podcast Curious. This episode features John Stamos, heart-throb of the 90’s and a star on the renowned television sitcom Full House.  The two met on the set of Grandfathered, where Stamos played a fatherly role for Peck on and off screen. Although both actors peaked during different eras, their similar relationship with the entertainment industry and the effects it had on teens in the spotlight allowed the unlikely pair to become closer than ever. Even though they have been friends for almost three years now, Peck still can not wrap his head around the idea of calling Stamos his best friend. He recalls growing up watching Full House and admiring Stamos from his child-home couch. The two were both stars of Nickelodeon’s most successful shows; Stamos starred as Jesse in Full House and Peck starred as Josh in Drake and Josh. As one can imagine, after the two experienced immediate and constant fame, they both began to lose motivation. Both actors explain how the thrill of one’s peak of fame sets life out of perspective, making one feel invincible. This effect led both Peck and Stamos to drugs and alcohol. The confusing and eye-opening time eventually pushed both actors to become more involved with the present and repersue their love for acting. This episode of Curious ventures into the hidden norms of present day Hollywood with the faces of late night comedy. While still adding humor and spunk to the episode, Peck and Stamos clue the audience into the detrimental effects of life in the spotlight.

Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard– “Ellen DeGeneres”

Actor Dax Shepard has worked in a series of feature films over the course of his career. His success in the film industry allowed Shepard to become friends with some of Hollywood’s most influential figures like Ellen Degeneres. Although most commonly known for role on The Ellen Degeneres Show, Degeneres is also an activist for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community (LGBT), has acted in major films like Finding Nemo and written a series of novels. Ellen begins explaining how her comedic career began, trying to book any show that would have her. Always looking ahead, Ellen brought with her autographed pieces of paper to hand out the crowd before her show. After they entered the venue, they sat through an hour of Degeneres acting like a five year old, telling knock knock jokes to entertain her audience. As she became more confident in her comedic abilities, she became more comfortable branching out in her humor. As she began to expand her humor, Degeneres recalls her first stand-up without puerile jokes. She called it a conversation with God. The comedic piece in which Degeneres first experienced a halting silence from the audience. Even with negative feedback, Degeneres has since then continued to bring in politics and more into her humor. This episode of Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard touches on Degeneres’ relationship with comedy and how it helped her come out as lesbian in the public eye.

Amy Schumer Presents: 3 Girls, 1 Keith– “Ego”

Amy Schumer has realized many new passions in the last couple of years. Form protesting in Washington D.C. to writing a New York Times bestseller, Schumer has become a force to be reckoned with. This past summer, Schumer pursued a new passion of hers: podcasting. Her new podcast 3 Girls, 1 Keith, is hosted with some of her best friends and occasionally features hilarious guests. In his episode 3 Girls, 1 Keith, Schumer digs deeper into what ego means to her and how it has affected her everyday life. Ego is normally described as the stress on self-importance. Whether good or bad, ego is something everyone experiences in one form or another. Schumer explains that to be in her industry, ego is something that is necessary to captivate and entice her audience. As a stand-up comedian, Schumer is passionate for her job through her desire to prove her comedic abilities to the audience. Without an ego to push her forward, she feels as if she would not undergo her amount of success. Even though egotistical tendencies can lead to success, Schumer also believes it can bring out a childish side to an adult. From ego in the comedic industry to embarrassing workout outfits, this episode covers it all.
