Arlington County has found a way to turn winter cleanup into a community wide inside joke. This is thanks to the yearly tradition of snowplow-naming. Each year, county residents submit hundreds of ideas, and from this pool there are dozens of winners selected. These fun, creative names range from anything from memes to local jokes and wordplay, and are displayed on Arlington’s official snow activity map. The county’s list for this year includes some of the most clever and charming puns you may ever find in any snowplow fleet.

 Best Pop Culture References:

-Blizzard of Oz

-Taylor Drift

-Slick Sleddin (67)

Although there were an abundance of pop culture references to choose from, some of the more charming names referenced the surrounding community in Arlington, giving residents a fun inside joke to share with one another.

-Snowlumbia Pike

-Courthouse Cold Crusher

-Ballston Blizzard Buster

Many of the most popular names for the plows stem from references of both local and country-wide sports. These light hearted connections are a small thing that diehard sports fans in our area can have a good laugh over.

-Scrape Maye

-Alex Snovechkin

-Washington Nat-Sno-Nals

Even something as small as a snowplow name is enough to change someone’s mood entirely. These county names do just that, and their creative wordplay is enough to bring anyone some joy in a tough stretch of the year.
