John Scholla was recently appointed as our school’s new Assistant Director of Student Activities, bringing over a decade of experience in education to his new role. With a background that includes everything from teaching to student support, Scholla is now one of the people at the helm of coordinating a wide and complicated array of student events.
“I work on everything from scheduling and tickets to clubs and other extracurriculars…. Basically anything that is not a part of the school day we [the activities office] have a role in,” Scholla said.
While Scholla does have an extensive amount of responsibilities, he enjoys the rewarding aspect of his job, where he gets to see students enjoying themselves both inside and outside of our school.
“I know a lot of kids are going to look back on their high school experiences and think back to activities like football games and other events, and I enjoy getting to help provide that to them,” Scholla said.
In Scholla’s new position, he works countless hours organizing and meeting with coaches and other administration. While this may seem tedious, Scholla describes it as one of his favorite parts of his job.
“I really like building relationships with our coaches or working with our club sponsors and getting to know everybody, because really every adult here at Yorktown cares about our kids,” Scholla said.
Scholla’s transition into this new role is a shift from working primarily with students to support the greater community at our school. This is in order to help continue to provide the students here at our school with the best time possible.
“I like to call it the holistic high school experience, where you get the best experience in school, but also always have something that you can go do out of school,” Scholla said.
In a hard working and dedicated environment like our school, Scholla is sure to be a perfect fit. Scholla’s hiring reflects his commitment to student development, positioning him as a key figure in shaping the future of our schools’ athletic and extracurricular programs moving forward.
