Off And Away: Wait It Actually Worked?

Here at the Yorktown Sentry we are curious about why students feel free to use their phones as they please in the hallways. Throughout the day, I spent five minutes on each floor for every period of the day, tallying how many phones I saw out. Conclusively, I was pleasantly underwhelmed with my results. Students were not wandering the hallways like they usually do, and the students I saw out of class with the exception of a few were only going to get water or use the bathroom. Even during Patriot Period when students were free to roam, I noticed people engaging with their teachers and friends. In a space where you used to see hundreds staring down at their phones, I found students laughing and smiling.

In review, our school seemed happier today than usual, whether that has anything to do with phones or not, I do not know. But it was refreshing to see students happy and engaged with their friends. School can be a gloomy place, especially with finals and AP testing right around the corner, but it seems Yorktown students can see the light at the end of the tunnel and are dedicated to making that final push to summer.
