Sentry Staff Reporter

In her senior year of high school and third year on Sentry staff, Isabelle Foley is on a rollercoaster that will only go up. From speech and debate club to tennis team and even landing a job at Pie Tanza, Foley rarely has nothing to do. Surrounded by friends that have made her high school experience fun and worth her strenuous academic plan that she put on herself, Foley excels in all types of environments. She would describe her high school experience as:

“Overall positive [and] fun but [she is] ready to go.”

Although it has been positive she would love for there to be more spirit in the Yorktown community.

“I wish that everyone was more patriotic, literally Patriot nation,” said Foley.

Being an opinionated person, she likes when students are bold.

“ I like when people have opinions and are not scared to stand up for them” said Foley.

Pursuing a job in journalism is a legitimate career choice although she would not limit herself just to writing.

“For a long time I have known that I wanted to be a journalist,” she said.

Foley has come to realize that she wants a career that involves writing.

“I have to pick my life path [so] I am also thinking about reporting which also includes a lot of writing,” said Foley.

Her mom is from Lebanon and she visits almost every summer and would love to be part of International Relations, possibly even teaching overseas for a year or so after college.   Foley is full of humor, strong morals, and empathy towards other people and I have no doubt she will be successful wherever she ends up, whether that be overseas teaching or in a news studio in New York. Get to know Foley and conversations will revolve around food, laughter, and multiple uses of the word “Fam”.

Sophomore Grace Stroup is your new best friend. An all-star in the classroom and on the court, she is an active member in the school community. Not only is she an advanced placement scholar and a three-season athlete, but Stroup is starting her first year as a reporter on The Sentry staff.

A passionate writer, Stroup joined the staff with the hopes of turning her passion into a career.

“You don’t get to do that kind of creative writing, or at least the writing I’m interested in, in English class. I wanted to learn how to do it, but also have fun,” said Stroup.

As a reporter, Stroup is mostly interested in covering sports and opinion. An avid sport spectator (and participant), she believes this is the topic she will be most comfortable with. She is also looking forward to writing for the opinion section, as a student with new perspectives and ideas.

“I stick to what I believe in…I’m very passionate about certain things that I choose to be passionate about,” explained Stroup.

This summer, Stroup spent time on Staten Island helping with Hurricane Sandy relief, and she also spent time in Tanzania on a mission trip. The rest of her vacation was spent at camp and in Bethany Beach with her family.

With three years left in high school, Stroup has some short-term goals she hopes to accomplish before graduating. She is most looking forward to when her brother, senior Kiernan Stroup, gets accepted into college. She is also excited for fall to begin, as well as basketball season. High school does not come without its struggles, however. The part of the year she is most dreading is the rest of the cross country season. During her time in high school, she plans on maintaining good friendships and having fun!
