On Thanksgiving, one of the most popular desserts served throughout the country is pumpkin pie. Pumpkin pie was first created by early American settlers around 1621, they made a food that resembled pumpkin pie using a hollowed out pumpkin shell with milk and other spices. Years later, it has evolved into a holiday favorite.

 

Ingredients:

  • 9 inch pie pan
  • 2-3 large eggs
  • 2 cups of pumpkin puree
  • 1 ½ cups heavy cream and evaporated milk
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ⅓ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon grated or ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves or allspice
  • ½ teaspoon salt

 

Instructions For Cooking:

  1. Put a rack in the center of the oven before preheating it to 475 degrees F along with a pie crust
  2. Whisk 2-3 large eggs in a bowl
  3. Whisk in rest of the ingredients into the eggs
  4. Leave the pie filling at room temperature before pouring the rest of the mixture into the crust.
  5. Bake for 35-45 minutes until firm
  6. Cool completely/refrigerate for up to one day
  7. Serve your tasty treat at room temperature for the whole family
