Junior Josh Bodenstein, better known as ITC Coordinator and resident “tech-guy,” is excited to return for his second year on The Yorktown Sentry staff.
Bodenstein is passionate about technology, noting his first major encounter back in Pennsylvania.
“When I was really young, I would play all the games on the new Apple phones [at the Apple Store] because my parents didn’t have iPhones yet. [The phones] intrigued me with all that technology stuff,” Bodenstein said.
This has led to a life of computers, websites and games, yet Bodenstein has made it very clear that he hates coding.
“I don’t know, I don’t like coding,” Bodenstein said when asked if he sees a future in technology.
Although he doesn’t enjoy coding, Bodenstein is good at other aspects of tech, contributing heavily to the Yorktown Robotics Team. The team competes in competitions throughout the region, building robots to complete tasks, like stacking blocks or moving objects. Team member, sophomore Jackson Weber, spoke positively about the club, explaining how it marries creativity with coding.
“It’s a great time. Everyone has different roles,” Weber said.
Though each member has their own role on the team, it seems Bodenstein loves to contribute in all areas to help his teammates.
“I do everything that nobody else wants to do,” Bodenstein stated.
It is expected that Bodenstein would enjoy techno music, yet he has a knack for 80s music, citing his favorite artist as Rick Astley.
He enjoys Astely’s music, and the jokes that come with the talented artist. Bodenstein recounted the time he shipped a VHS tape to his friend, only for his friend to play the tape and be Rickrolled.
Like most, Bodenstein commented on the fact that he does not have one favorite song. To him, it is always a matter of finding a new song to overplay and get sick of.
“I have a favorite song, I play it to death, and realize I hate that song, and then find a new favorite song,” Bodenstein said.
Like his music, he also loves classic movies. Although he has not seen it in a while, Bodenstein claimed that his favorite movie is Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. He loves how simple it is, and doesn’t have a crazy and deep meaning.
Over the summer Bodenstein worked as a counselor at a sailing camp. He learned how to sail at the same camp seven years prior.
“Sailing and being with the kids was really fun, they have such an interesting perspective on everything,” Bodenstein said.
Bodenstein loves how blunt his sailing students are, and their willingness to speak their mind. He feels that this younger generation of sailors has a new perspective on things that his fellow counselors and himself don’t even think about.
The Sentry is thrilled to have our “tech-guy” return for another year. He is ready to take on any challenge that approaches him with an honest and outgoing personality. We cannot wait to see what he has to offer on his second run with the team.

If someone asks what your favorite candy is, typically, you could answer that. However, this question proves difficult for senior Sarah Friend.
“I hate candy, but I love chocolate. I love white chocolate and dark chocolate, but I despise milk chocolate. I love strong flavors, I don’t like when it gets dulled down” Friend said.
Despite Friend’s strong opinions on chocolate, she can’t classify that as her favorite food. When presented with the choice of eating any one food for the rest of her life, Friend would have to commit to Lebanese food.
“I’m really big on the mix between nutrition and delicious cuisine. I would eat Lebanese food for the rest of my life,” Friend said.
While she loves a good Lebanese meal, Friend wouldn’t characterize herself as hummus or falafel. She can be sweet or sour; what other than sweet and sour sauce?
“First of all, it’s delicious, and anything really works with it. I work really well with other people. I can be sweet, or I can be sour,” Friend said
Friend enjoys all things food, and that even reflects down to her movie tastes. When asked what her favorite Disney movie was, Friend immediately jumped to Ratatouille.
“I know every single line of that movie. I just love the animation of food from Disney,” Friend said.
Chocolate, movies, and food aside, friend also has a life inside of class
Friend is excited to start writing for The Sentry, and she is specifically excited to write for the opinion section as her opinion is, according to her, the best and only correct one.
“I already put tabs on events like the Met Gala. My friends base their opinions on mine, because mine are the only ones that are good, because I know everything,” Friend said.
When Friend isn’t leading the pack with her opinions, you can find her leading the team on track.
“I started running track last year. I’m a sprinter, and I’m learning a lot about being a leader through it,” Friend said.
As one of the few seniors on staff, Friend frequently gets asked if she is excited or scared to attend college. While she is a bit nervous to leave all of her friends back home, after spending a month abroad in France during 2022, she is ready to live on her own again.
“I’m really sad to leave my friends and leave what I’m used to. But I’m really excited to be on my own,” Friend said
Sentry staff are excited for our newest fashionista and foodie to join our team this year. Her excitement toward learning about the class will make her a great classmate, and we are sure her year on staff will not disappoint.
