While the weather outside may suggest otherwise, spring is fast approaching. Naturally many senior girls associate springtime with prom. This is an innocent and normal thought process. The problem arises, however,  when these thoughts are translated into girls claiming prom dresses months in advance.

Throughout the year the senior ladies have been using a Facebook group to communicate with the entire class. Girls are claiming dresses by posting photos of the dress that they believe they will purchase at one point or another. Prom is at least three months away. Claiming prom dresses this far in advance causes undue stress on the rest of the girls who have not even begun their search for the perfect dress. These stressed girls will then make quick and rash decisions on a dress they want because they feel like they should reserve one, regardless of whether or not they really like the dress.

Girls who choose their dress too quickly will either claim multiple dresses or change their mind about the dress they chose. This, of course, leaves fewer and fewer options for everyone else.

Another reason why people should not be claiming prom dresses this soon is simply because, chances are, you will not end up with the same dress as someone else anyway. There are thousands of dresses out there and only a couple hundred senior girls. This means that the chances of two girls having the same dress are very small.

Even if you and someone else do happen to have the same dress, most likely they will have it in a different color than the one you have. And if two people do have exactly the same dress in exactly the same color, you probably won’t be in the same group anyway. And if you’re not in the same group and aren’t taking pictures together, it doesn’t really matter that some other girl somewhere is wearing the same dress as you. Most likely you won’t even know that there is someone wearing the same dress as you.

What this boils down to is that girls need to coordinate with the group that they are going in, not with the entire grade. Everyone wants to enjoy and remember prom. If two girls happen to be there in the same dress, will anyone really notice?

So ladies, theres no need to stress ourselves out over something like prom dresses this early in the year. Prom will be a great experience for all seniors in our last couple weeks together. Even if you and some other girl happen to have the same dress, everyone will still look unique and beautiful in the dress they choose!
