While the official start of school is at 8:19 a.m., some students do not start their day until 10-30 minutes after the bell. Others choose to avoid first or second block all together and roll in around 9:45 a.m. Most have the same excuse that is somewhere along the lines of “I overslept,” but this does not count as an excused tardy, so others resort to making up reasons as to why they are not on time. Few students actually have a believable excuse, while others are at least just being honest.

“I am just gonna walk into class without an excuse, I didn’t feel like waking up.” – Brandon White, senior

“My older brother, Noah, does not care about time. I like to come in early enough to talk to my friends and put my crew stuff in the bag room, but Noah wakes up at the last minute and puts on his shoes in the car.” –  Hailey Tanenbaum, freshman

“Well, I don’t go to the attendance office when I’m late, so I wake up at 8 in the morning, which probably contributes a lot to it. And then I take a shower and by the time I get out it’s like, 8:30. I think it’s because I got into college early action and I’m a second semester senior.”  CJ Stowell, senior

“I had to keep playing Clash Royale to keep my trophy count high.” – Zach Tripodi, freshman

“My mom justifies lying by saying I had an appointment… It was a sleeping appointment.” – Marisa Fitz, junior

“I’m usually late because my mom drives me and she’s busy making my my lunch and walking the dog in the morning and I don’t wanna rush her because she does so much for me. My first period teacher is used to me being late by now so I just have a lot of unexcused tardies, like 38 last quarter.” – Piper O’Donnell, sophomore

“I told the attendance I had an appointment. Sometimes I do have an appointment… like once. But I usually I go back to sleep after I wake up and my sisters take a long time.” – Petie Nassetta, freshman

“I am always late because of my sister. We wake her up at 6:30 a.m. and then she goes back to sleep and then we end up being late because she fell back asleep. But one time I said my dog ran away and that I had to find him.” – Sydney Nassetta, junior
