Voices of the Hallway

The high school halls are chaotic at times. Trying to catch any conversations between the slamming of lockers is a near-impossible task, but if you manage to catch even the tiniest snippet, the hallways could be the perfect place for out of pocket remarks, unfiltered thoughts and hilarious debates among students of all ages.

The day got off to a slow start, students complaining about school and classes, debates on sports events and what they were planning on doing this weekend. This chatter did not get my hopes up for the rest of the day but, as I should’ve expected, once students got out of the classroom the conversations started to heat up.

Some students were not as harmless, one going as far to ask a Sentry staff member for not only a hug but for her phone number and even a date. The worst was still yet to come, later that day I overheard a conversation between two bright young scholars discussing the best bathrooms to smoke in without getting caught. As always, our school continues to impress.

Apart from the average conversations of a high school student, we had two Sentry staff members asking students “Are you smarter than a 5th grader” questions, and as expected, our students did not fail to impress. An anonymous 12th grader took his best shot at the spelling of broccoli, which he expertly pieced together to make “boccroly.” Next up was another senior who seemed to know what he was talking about until the question, “How many countries are in North America” was asked, to which he responded 51.

The chatter of a high school will never disappoint no matter where you go, you just need to keep an ear out. You might even be able to hear students talking about 2 guys walking the hall having people smell a “mystery fragrance.” No matter how crazy the story is, things manage to get around at our school. It’s what makes school exciting, without it school wouldn’t feel the same.
