Drip or Drown: 2025

Drip or Drown pt.3!
Drip or Drown pt.3!

It’s that time of year again: the annual Drip or Drown article, where we find our school’s best outfits. In a sea of sweatpants and oversized hoodies, sometimes a breath of fresh air is what you need to avoid water in your lungs. That fresh air? Style. Cohesive clothes and color palettes with accessories other than Airpods. There are plenty of fish in the sea, but when most of them wear house slippers and the same retail college-brand sweaters, does it matter how many fish there are?

Senior Audrey Gagnier was the first person I caught on my fishing expedition, donning a light gray tee, Hollister blue jeans, a dark zip up and a coffee cup to complete the look. The jeans with a sewn-in cuff and an acid-wash style add a lot. Her jacket (that she got from Depop) reads “West Virginia,” and what better for peak outfits than the mountain mama state herself?

Next people I caught in my net were Sophomores Violet Dunkel and Matti Creech. Dunkel rocked a thick black denim jacket, a stylish undershirt and some classic black slacks while Matti had a wide-necked tucked in white shirt and blue jeans. Dunkel also talked about getting clothes off Depop, a trend that continues in most of the people I run into.

Most people don’t think of a random Wednesday as a good day to dress up, so fishing was somewhat slow, but I got another couple bites soon after Creech and Duckel. Sophomores Isabella Arcinigas and Carter Dawson were caught next. Arcinigas continued the trend of Depop shopping with her embroidered jeans, and the rest of her stuff was mostly hand-me-downs from her dad or brother. Second hand is a great way to get cheap/free clothes, though you have to be a little less picky when it comes to sizing. Dawson had a simple brown hoodie, with a black cowboy-esque button-up underneath and light gray acid jeans.

I had to dive for the next fish, Junior Sev Conley. I knew they’d have something good, but I had to find them first. When I caught them in the black box, it was a quick interview. Conley’s fashion style is similar to their interests, usually sporting horror movie references. They said they get most of their clothes from Hot Topic and Spencers, though Spirit Halloween has good jewelry when It’s the halloween season. No outfit is complete without accessories, and Conley takes this to heart. They rock belt chains, bracelets, rings and earrings that vary day to day. For sure a refreshing sight in the halls.

My last catch of the day was Senior Rain Pair, wearing her standard of a hoodie that’s zipped halfway, baggy pants, and quite possibly the coolest shoulder bag from our school. Pair said she bought the bag from a website, and was worried she’d be scammed, but it came out great. She also took the second-hand route of stealing clothes from her twin’s closet.

The trend of these outfits seem to be muted colors, embroidery, rhinestones, baggy pants and smaller shirts. And of course, most of the outfits were second hand, either from thrift shops, flea markets, family or online stores. Not to mention how good second hand shopping is for the environment. Fast fashion is rampant, and it’s important to do what we can to combat it.
