It is said a picture is worth a thousand words, but even a thousand would not do freshman Dylan Duhamel’s work justice. Even though it is only his first year of high school, Duhamel is no amateaur in the world of photography. Most of his work focuses on landscaping, and it is definitely worth taking a look at. Expect to see much more of this talented photography 1 student.
Q: How long have you been a photographer?
A: I started using my dad’s camera in sixth grade and I realized I really liked it, so I went from there.
Q: What first got you interested in photography?
A: Really just seeing photos on the internet that interested me and I enjoyed looking at them.
Q: What is your favorite style of art?
A: I really like landscaping and still life and taking pictures of them.
Q: Why did you choose to work with landscaping?
A: Some of the first photos I saw online were landscaping, so that interested me and made me want to try it out.
Q: Who has inspired you the most?
A: Probably Ansel Adams.
Q: How has the school’s photography department impacted your work?
A: Working with Mr. Beland has been really good, I just really have learned a lot so far. He has taught me a lot about appreciating my work, and the work that you do and how you produce that work.
Q: How do you balance school and art?
A: Mainly on the weekends. I like to just go out to take photos, and that is the best time for me.
Q: What is your favorite piece of yours?
A: One of my favorites was the one that I submitted, of the dock in Ireland. I really liked the soft lighting around it all.
Q: Do you plan on going into a career involving art?
A: Yes. It would be great to work for National Geographic, that’s actually a dream of mine.
Q: What do you hope for the future?
A: To keep on enjoying photography and just to like what I do.
