Adele greeted the music scene once again with “Hello”

After a three-year break, the singer made headlines with her return on October 23. Adele’s 2015 debut combined her signature smoky voice with heart-wrenching lines, which seemed to be designed to make everyone miss someone dear to them. While the lyrics were apologetic, she certainly was not. The ballad broke Billboard’s record for most copies sold in a week, with 1.11 million sold, surpassing Elton John’s 1997 tribute to Princess Diana. However, this is only the beginning for the twenty-seven year old Brit, as her third album, 25, will be released globally on November 20. Regarding the new music, Adele told Sirius XM, “There is some darkness on it, just because I like to do dramatic. I’m a bit of a drama queen…This record is all about how I feel as opposed to how someone else has made me feel. It’s about how I made myself feel.” Her last album, 21, was completed after a breakup, and consequently is filled with passionate recollections of the relationship. While “Hello” may sound like pleading to an ex, Adele claims it is aimed at anyone — friends, family, even her fans.

Her world tour for 25 kicks off on February 27 in Birmingham, Great Britain.

The Kansas City Royals won the World Series

The five-day long tournament came to a close on November 2, when the Royals defeated the New York Mets, 7-2 in Game 5. It is the first time since 1985 that the team has won the World Series, and its first appearance since narrowly losing to the San Francisco Giants in 2014. Of the win, Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer said, “It’s the best, we came back and won a world championship. Words can’t even describe how awesome this feels right now. Couldn’t have done it with a better group of guys. We battled since day one, Minor Leagues a lot of us, and this is an unbelievable feeling.” The game itself was a nailbiter, with the Mets up 2-0 from the seventh inning into the ninth, where the the score got close. Eric Hosmer hit a Runs batted in double, narrowing the lead to 2-1. After the Mets’ pitcher Matt Harvey finally returned to the dugout, Hosmer made it home on a throw from Mets first baseman Lucas Duda. The game then went 2-2 into extra innings, where Kansas City persevered 7-2 by the twelfth. Royals catcher Salvador Perez was voted most valuable player of the series, for a multitude of runs and for sparking the team’s comeback in the twelfth inning.

“You guys know what we’ve done all season,” Perez said. “We never quit. We never put our heads down. … We always compete to the last out. And that’s what we did tonight.”

Donald Trump hosted Saturday Night Live

On November 8, the business mogul and presidential candidate took the stage to host NBC’s Saturday Night Live in New York City. Opening the show alongside cast member Taran Killam, who is known for satirizing the businessman, Trump began with his infamous humor. “Donald, you’re the most talented guy. You’re brilliant, you’re handsome, you’re rich, you have everything going–the world is waiting for you to be president so why are you hosting Saturday Night Live?” he said during his monologue. “I didn’t have anything better to do.” The Republican presidential candidate drew ratings by appearing in two sketches, for an estimated total of 12 minutes and 55 seconds, according to NBC. In his first sketch, Trump traveled to the future to play himself as the president of the United States in 2018. This is a world where his daughter, Ivanka (who, interestingly enough, drew little applause from the audience), redecorates the Washington Monument with “gold mirror glass” and the president of Mexico comes by to pay for the wall along the Mexican border. Then, in his next sketch, Trump portrayed a “tax guy” in a reenactment of Drake’s infamous music video for “Hotline Bling.” Despite protests outside of Rockefeller Center in response to Trump’s previous controversial statements regarding Latinos, the show boasted its highest ratings in years, according to the network.
