Frederico Penella as Daniel Plainview

Frederico Penella – Daniel Plainview

For his One Person Show, Frederico Penella adapted the character of Daniel Plainview, an oil tycoon, from the movie There WIll Be Blood. Daniel Plainview is a seemingly ordinary man, who, overtime, builds up enough hate and distrust to become almost completely emotionally detached from everyone and everything. Penella discovered his character while watching the movie on Netflix and was struck by the character’s interesting life.

“I found it interesting how he can in some ways be admirable, meaning he is self motivated, honest and is willing to actually do whatever it takes,” said Panella. He felt that he could relate to Plainview’s ambition.

Penella found that not getting constant feedback was certainly been the hardest part of the process, and at times he was unsure if his show would make sense or not. Penella found Daniel Plainview to be an interesting character and thinks living in the western plains would be fun, however he would never want to live the dull life of someone who competes over oil in the early 1900’s.

Penella had a great time in theater and with his One Person Show, however he has no desire to continue with theater in the future. He does not want to completely give up the arts, however, and hopes to go into film and TV after college.
