On Thanksgiving, one of the most popular desserts served throughout the country is pumpkin pie. Pumpkin pie was first created by early American settlers around 1621, they made a food that resembled pumpkin pie using a hollowed out pumpkin shell with milk and other spices. Years later, it has evolved into a holiday favorite.
Ingredients:
- 9 inch pie pan
- 2-3 large eggs
- 2 cups of pumpkin puree
- 1 ½ cups heavy cream and evaporated milk
- ½ cup sugar
- ⅓ cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- ½ teaspoon grated or ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon ground cloves or allspice
- ½ teaspoon salt
Instructions For Cooking:
- Put a rack in the center of the oven before preheating it to 475 degrees F along with a pie crust
- Whisk 2-3 large eggs in a bowl
- Whisk in rest of the ingredients into the eggs
- Leave the pie filling at room temperature before pouring the rest of the mixture into the crust.
- Bake for 35-45 minutes until firm
- Cool completely/refrigerate for up to one day
- Serve your tasty treat at room temperature for the whole family
