In early April, our school is putting on a production of Anything Goes, a nautical comedy musical with love pentagons and enough costumes to fill a retail store. Despite being written in the mid-thirties, the jokes still stack up and are guaranteed to make you laugh.
A stockbroker hopelessly in love, a debutante destined for an arranged marriage, a showgirl with a love for the dramatic, an english lord with no understanding of American slang, a hilarious gold-digging mother and a businessman who’s blind as a bat. What could go wrong? Anything.
“Anything Goes could be seen as a fun, silly, simple show. But it is one of the hardest shows to do well,” said theater teacher and director, Alani Kravitz.
Not only is the acting and music for this show gorgeous, but the technical elements are bound to wow you. Our school’s first ever production with LED lights and a surround-sound system, this performance is going all out to give you an unforgettable experience. With a cast of 26 people, you most likely know someone in the show!
Freshman Colin Lee, who plays Billy Crocker, might be new to the school but he is no stranger to acting. With seven musicals under his belt and a part to play in the winter one acts, this is not his first rodeo.
“Everyone is so talented… I’m so excited for the musical, it’s really funny,” said Lee.
The theater department has poured months of work into this production, hoping to give you the best experience possible. There is one show each on April 3 and 4, two shows on April 5, and tickets are almost sold out! Students and kids pay $10, and adults pay $15. If you have the time and money to spare, go see Anything Goes. You’ll be leaving the auditorium with at least one song stuck in your head, if not the whole soundtrack.
