The Super Bowl is an entertaining affair not just for the game and halftime show, but for the commercials. Every year, the gaps during the game are filled with entertaining advertisements that we only see during the big game. Companies spend millions of dollars to air their ads in front of one the biggest television audiences of the year. There are plenty exciting and unexpected celebrity appearances, creating even more hype. This year’s ads were no exception and here are five of the best ads we saw this year.
Michelob Ultra
This Super Bowl, the beer brand Michelob Ultra produced a fun commercial that featured Catherine O’Hara and Willem Dafoe as an elite pickleball duo who keep dominating their opponents. They are constantly motivated along the way by their thirst for having another Michelob Ultra. This ad captures the over the top intensity of pickleball players, especially among older people.
Instacart
This commercial might be described as the collab of the century. When else do you get to see Kool Aid man, Mr Clean, the Energizer Bunny, and the Pillsbury Doughboy all at once? It is an especially clever way to personify how Instacart is delivering all these items to your house right on time.
Uber Eats
In this Super Bowl ad, Matthew McConaughey pitches his conspiracy theory that football was created just to make you hungry, thus making you want to order food. It shows several ridiculous examples like how a football is called a pigskin to make you crave bacon. This ad was the culmination of this series from McConaughey and Uber Eats which many football fans were already anticipating.
Pringles
Pringles is known for their mascot’s signature mustache and this ad creates a humorous presence surrounding it. Actor Adam Brody is told to blow into a Pringles can in order to refill it. By doing this, he somehow removes all the mustaches off people’s faces, including mustache icons like actor Nick Offerman, NBA player James Harden, and Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid.
Budweiser
Likely the most wholesome ad from this year’s game was Budweiser’s. It follows the story of a horse who was told he was too small to carry the buggy of Budweiser. Once a barrel falls out though, he tracks it down, and brings it all the way to the bar where the beer was being delivered. They cleverly throw in a joke when one of the guys in the bar starts a joke by saying “A horse walking into a bar…” right as the horse arrives at the bar. Budweiser spends the most on Super Bowl ads and their money did not go to waste, as this commercial was written and executed amazingly well.
Although the game wasn’t the most exciting this year, Super Bowl LIX did not disappoint when it came to commercials. Some ads may turn out to be forgettable, but it is fair to say that they were still a few classics we saw this year.
