Packet hot chocolate has become a home staple during the winter months to many kids growing up, but people still hate on it for no reason. This packet hot chocolate hate is undeserved, and frankly, blatantly wrong. The people making these claims have been lied to and are under informed of the wonders of packet hot chocolate.
Let’s clear something up first: milk is the ONLY thing that should be used when making hot chocolate from a packet. Water isn’t bad but it lacks the creaminess and smooth texture that milk brings to the mug.
One of the greatest things going for packet hot chocolate is how easy it is to make. The only things that are needed are the packet(s) of mix itself, milk and a microwave or stove to heat up the milk. All that’s done after heating the milk is pouring the packet into the warm milk and stirring. The simplicity of packet hot chocolate is one of its best factors. Few people want to go through the process of heating up chocolate bars over a stove while doing the same separately with milk. Another addition people make is cocoa powder to enhance the flavor or darker chocolate to counteract the traditional sweet taste.
While we’re on the topic of the taste of hot chocolate, I’d like to say that packet hot chocolate tastes very similar to fancier hot chocolate. The packet stuff might not be a carbon copy of fancier hot chocolate, but when it comes down to the general taste they are extremely similar. The similarities in flavor is something that fancy hot chocolate fans refuse to believe but it’s just true.
Another thing that is going for packet hot chocolate is the price. Currently, a box of 50 packets of Swiss Miss costs $14.01 on Amazon, not including shipping. This comes down to $0.28 per packet. Contrasting this with $3.85 from Starbucks for one cup of hot chocolate shows the massive difference in price. The fact that 3 Starbucks hot chocolates cost around the same amount as 50 packets of Swiss Miss is insane.
Overall, packet hot chocolate is simply better. It’s way more affordable, takes almost no time to prepare and tastes similar enough to fancy hot chocolate. Packet hot chocolate radiates warmth in the soul and that’s hard to beat for any holiday drink.
