Sophomore Luke Colbert, brother and legacy of our previous Head Editor, Reese Colbert, is ready to follow in her footsteps and become a dedicated reporter for The Yorktown Sentry. Colbert expresses his immense appreciation for journalism and how he wants to grow his career as a reporter.
“I really enjoy writing. I’m excited to start writing articles and interviewing people, [and] I would like to become some sort of editor in this class, too. I would love to pursue journalism, hopefully do some sports journalism in college, that’s the goal,” Colbert said.
Apart from his love for writing, Colbert has plenty of other interests. Before getting injured earlier this year, Colbert made our school’s varsity football team. He also lifts weights and even competes in shot put for our school. Although Colbert’s interests reflect his passion for athletics, he makes it known that his athleticism doesn’t define him.
“I really love the games Chutes and Ladders and Sorry!,” Colbert said.
Colbert also shares his love for his animals at home.
“I have one dog named Clover. He is a South African Boerboel Mastiff, so he’s pretty big,” Colbert said.
Colbert’s love for animals does not end there, as he and his family became cat owners rather heroically.
“We have two cats named PJ and Archie. We actually rescued them from a dumpster,” Colbert said.
Speaking of heroes, Colbert’s top choice for any superhero to be would be Superman. According to Colbert, he is the best and most well-rounded superhero.
Superman is not Colbert’s only hero, though. He shares his admiration for his father, and the incredible impact he has had on him.
“[My dad is] probably the bravest person I know, and I would like to become someone like him,”
As Colbert enters his first year on staff, we are so lucky to have him. With his hardworking efforts and thoughtful presence, Colbert will be an incredible addition to The Yorktown Sentry.

Harper Kois is showing her pursuit for greatness in the classroom and on the diamond. Kois is ready to get her last year going, preparing to hit the books and lace up her cleats. Kois will be more than sad to leave this class. Joining as a sophomore, Kois quickly found a love for the class.
“Being in a class 3rd period and having it every year, coming back is so comfortable and really nice,” Kois said.
Kois loves to write and has sat down with a multitude of interesting people and organizations. When asked about what her most interesting interview she ever did is, it was a quick and easy response for her. Clearly the Grilling club made a good first impression with her.
“My first year I wrote an article about the Grilling club, so I got to talk to the presidents and the other leaders of the club. One of the meetings I went to they had a big steak that they all shared. It was really cool to see how close of a group they were,” Kois said.
Although Kois has loved journalism for the past three years here at YHS, she looks to follow a different path in her career.
“I would like to go to college and pursue something in biology and psychology, things like the brain and how it interacts with the body,” Kois said.
Kois likes to keep herself active as much as she possibly can, playing sports year round. Kois excels in softball but doesn’t shy away from new opportunities. Kois recently joined two new teams at our school.
“I play softball for a club [team]. I’ve been playing since I was in tee-ball. I also play volleyball when I’m not playing softball. I’m not as good at it because I started in 8th grade but I really enjoy it. I also do swimming,” Kois said.
Kois loves all kinds of sports and players, but when asked about who she would interview if she got the chance, Kois went with Marta, of the brazilians women’s national soccer team.
“Marta hasn’t won any world cups but she’s been playing for years and she’s very good. It’s so fun to watch her and I would love to talk to her about what it’s like,” said Kois.
With Kois’ packed schedule of different sports, she has found it to be a struggle trying to find any time for hobbies. In that little time she has, Kois likes to hangout with friends and do face painting. Her passion for face painting was first sparked when she was looking for something to do during covid.
“I was trying to find something to do during covid so I bought a big face painting kit and I started practicing on myself,” Kois said.
To say we are lucky to have Kois on staff would be an understatement; her passion for journalism combined with her remarkable ability to write makes her a great addition to The Yorktown Sentry.
