We are proud to welcome one of The Sentry’s newest members, sophomore Emily Miller. Being the second of two reporters named Emily on the paper, we are excited to see how Miller will stand out. Specifically, she shows her uniqueness in her choice of biggest fear.
“Spider crickets. I find them really scary,” Miller said.
Along with wanting nothing to do with crickets, Miller may want to be far away from our classroom during our food and drink filled class parties. These gatherings are full of her greatest pet peeve.
“I hate loud chewing, loud breathing and when people gulp drinks,” Miller said.
Even though she may not like other people’s eating, Miller will never be mad if she is given a plate of dumplings to eat herself.
“If I could only eat one food, I would say dumplings. I feel like there is a lot of variety in them,” Miller said.
Something else she will never get sick of is the beach. Miller’s love for the beach began with her favorite vacation during the pandemic.
“My favorite vacation is when I went to the Outer Banks with my friends and family during COVID-19,” Miller said.
Looking forward to her independence after her graduation in 2027, Miller would like to use her new freedom to travel. Her passion for hotter climates will likely be her guide.
“I would want to live in California, like San Diego. I really like the beach and warm weather,” Miller said.
Until graduation, you may find Miller playing for our school’s girls soccer team. She played for junior varsity last year and looks forward to another season with the team this year. Along with soccer, Miller has taken up a few other hobbies to fill her free time.
“I like to bake and I like to read. That takes up most of my time,” Miller said.
Even though Miller’s hobbies keep her occupied, she will not miss an opportunity to spend time with her dog, Sadie. Her company is more than enough for Sadie. However, Miller still wants to introduce a new member into the family: a friend to help with Sadie’s mischievous tendencies.
“Sadie’s a chocolate lab, but she’s a lot of trouble. I really want a golden retriever,” Miller said.
We hope that Miller loves The Sentry as much as she loves golden retrievers. She is a promising new edition to the class and we look forward to seeing how she fits reporting into her busy schedule. The Sentry family does not only offer academic skills that will be valued for years, but forms incomparable friendships. Welcome to The Yorktown Sentry, Emily!

Corinne “Coco” Rigoli is a senior and Head Editor of The Yorktown Sentry along with her partner in crime, Scarlett Gray. When she’s not working on articles, Rigoli enjoys playing lacrosse or spending time with friends and family.
“We’re a big lacrosse family, so I’ve played since first grade. I play for the Yorktown team and I’m planning on playing in college,” Rigoli said.
She plans to go to the University of Chicago to continue both her academic and lacrosse career, but the road to her athletic success has not been easy. When asked about a moment in time that she wishes she could go back and change, Rigoli recounts her injury troubles.
“I’d say freshman year when I broke my wrist and missed out on the state championship game. I was on the sidelines for that, and it was terrible,” Rigoli said.
Although Rigoli has lived in Arlington her whole life, she loves to travel. Among her favorite destinations are the Outer Banks and Europe, where she has family roots.
“I’ve done a lot of traveling with my family and we love all things Europe, so I’d love to go back to Italy because that’s specifically where I have a lot of family,” Rigoli said.
She also mentioned Switzerland, her dream skiing destination and bucket list item. Rigoli wants to enjoy the snowy slopes with her dad, who shares her passion for skiing.
While Rigoli enjoys the fun the winter months can bring, she cannot deny her love for the bright sunshine and beautiful days of her favorite season, even if it means dealing with the allergies that come with spring.
Continuing with the theme of warm temperatures and sunny weather, Rigoli is a beach girl at heart. Her family owns a beach house in the Outer Banks, which they visit often.
“We go to the Outer Banks as much as possible; it’s something that I’ll always love,” Rigoli said.
These vacations combine two of her favorite things: going to the beach and spending time with family, which includes her two dogs. She has a 12 year old Goldendoodle named Norman and a two year old corgi named Winnie.
Along with her dogs, Rigoli also has two sisters who she loves to spend time with. She remembers bonding with her older sister over their favorite childhood tv show, Liv and Maddie.
“I watched it with my older sister a lot when I was younger, and we just resonated with the characters, who were also sisters,” Rigoli said.
When watching her favorite show, you may find Rigoli enjoying her go-to snack combo: Cheez-Its dipped in Nutella. This unusual clash may seem unappetizing, but Rigoli claims the sweet and savory flavors work together.
The expertise that Rigoli brings to The Sentry is just as unique as her snack of choice. As she steps into her new role as Head Editor, she is able to showcase her leadership abilities and writing proficiency. We are looking forward to a successful year under her guidance.
