The Sentry is excited to welcome junior Rahel Mulugeta to its reporting staff this year. She eagerly awaits her first year on staff and is ready to begin writing for the sports section. Mulugeta can’t wait to take on the 2024-2025 school year in the classroom and become part of The Sentry family.
“[The class] seems really like a tight knit family, so I want to be a part of that. And I want to improve my writing,” Mulugeta said.
Writing is an important part of Mulugeta’s life. She began to love writing while reading graphic novels which grew into a love of movies that inspired her writing. In this class Mulugeta can’t wait to begin improving her writing skills.
“I’m excited for the sports section. I want to learn how to interview people,” Mulugeta said.
Outside of school, she admires her family and friends as role models. She has always looked up to her mom and dad for inspiration. Her friends are always able to cheer her up when Mulugeta is in a bad mood.
“I like talking to my friends. I always laugh when I’m with them,” Mulugeta said.
You can find Mulugeta spending her free time listening to R&B and following her favorite soccer team, Chelsea. Other than Chelsea, England, if Mulugeta could travel anywhere in the world she would travel to Greece or South Korea.
“In Greece the scenery is really beautiful and in South Korea I really want to try their food,” Mulugeta said.
Despite her goals for future travel, she is looking forward to her english and history class this year. Mulugeta’s love for writing will push her forward as she makes her place in this class.
“I heard about [The Sentry] in freshman year and I was thinking about joining it last year, but I wanted to build up my writing skills more before I came. I just wanted to expand how to write different styles and different techniques,” Mulugeta said.
Mulugeta has a lot in store this year. Whether writing articles for The Sentry or playing soccer with her friends, she is equipped to do it all. With Mulugeta’s drive for success, there is no doubt she will flourish as a writer. We are sure that she will leave a lasting impression on The Sentry and we cannot wait for her to become part of The Sentry family.

As Senior Ella Claire Sadauskas enters her final year at our school, she continues to make her mark as the photo editor of The Sentry, a role she has embraced for the second consecutive year. Having lived in Arlington her whole life, Sadauskas has cultivated a deep connection with her community. She emphasizes the school spirit and the friendships that enrich her time at our school, keeping her engaged and motivated.
“There are some good parts and some bad parts about being a student at Yorktown,” Sadauskas said.
Acknowledging the mixed experiences many students face, she appreciates the vibrant school spirit, supportive friends, and the opportunities for involvement.
Sadauskas takes on the role of manager for the wrestling team and actively participates in multiple clubs, dedicating her free time to volunteering and community service.
Passionate about political science and international relations, Sadauskas is inspired by her love for travel and a desire to make a global impact, underscoring her ambition to contribute positively to society.
“I want to be able to make somewhat of a change in the world,” Sadauskas said.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Sadauskas’s love for photography shines through in her work as photo editor, describing the joy she finds in capturing moments and telling stories through her lens.
“I’ve always liked taking pictures,” Sadauskas said.
But, if given the opportunity to write for a different section, she would choose the sports section, highlighting her appreciation for dynamic storytelling.
“It would be the most interesting section to write for because there’s so much action,” Sadauskas said.
As her time with The Sentry comes to a close and graduation approaches, Sadauskas is navigating the college application process with an open mind, exploring various options without a specific destination in mind. Her passion for political science and community engagement, along with her proactive approach, make her a standout member of our community, leaving a lasting impact on her peers and the school.
