Cheryl Stotler is retiring as Assistant Student Activities Director after a incredible 29 years. For the past 13 of those, Stotler has held her current position, managing our schools athletics, senior graduation, yearly calendars and much more. She has worked under four principals and three athletic directors in her 29 years at our school.
Before joining Yorktown’s staff, Stotler went to Virginia Tech and majored in business management. She was part of a small fitness company based in DC and later McLean, and then became a part of the Yorktown Activities Office.
Year after year, one of the highlights of Stotler’s job as assistant activities director is the senior graduation. “It is a very special ceremony, and it’s heartwarming to see the students who I’ve watched grow into young adults over four years’ time walk across the stage,” Stotler said
While entering retirement is bittersweet, Stotler is excited for what lies ahead as she leaves Yorktown. “I will miss the social aspect of working in a school but am looking forward to being able to do all the things that I haven’t had time for,” Stotler said.
Stotler will become a grandmother this spring, and can’t wait to visit her family’s new addition. She is also excited to embark on some trips later in the year.
During her time at our school, Stotler has learned to roll with change. “Sometimes doors open unexpectedly – don’t be afraid to enter and discover something new,” Stotler said.
Yorktown will certainly miss Stotler’s presence in our school and at athletic events, and are grateful for the fantastic work she has done throughout the years.
