When asked which fruit she would most likely be if she were a fruit, junior and first year staff member, Libby Boda, decided on a grape. It’s hard to say how much this says about her personality, but if you get to know her, there’s lots to learn.

Before the start of her career at The Sentry, Boda had a busy summer. After working as a camp counselor for a couple weeks, she spent some time in the mountains of Canada and then visited her cousin to play violin for her wedding. An interesting gig, that was only representative of her musically-oriented life style.

In her spare time, when she is not playing soccer or cross country, Boda likes to fiddle on the violin while her friend plays guitar. While she admits to liking a wide variety of music, she goes on to say she especially enjoys

“Any modern music that you can play a violin to.”

Boda already considers journalism one of her favorite classes because “So far it seems relaxed and there’s a lot of fun people.”

She is looking forward to a successful and fun year as one of The Sentry’s new photographers!

Graham Smith is a senior in his second year on The Sentry staff.  Outside of school, he is an athlete and a musician.  In his free time, Smith enjoys playing soccer and the guitar as well as fixing electronics.  As he approaches the end of high school, Smith is considering going to a science-focused college such as Virginia Tech or Harvey Mudd.  As a college student, he plans to study some type of engineering.  Smith said that one of the articles he previously wrote for The Sentry explored how to pick a college.  Ironically, Smith’s college decision is currently undecided.

Of his four years of high school, Smith has so far enjoyed his senior year the most.

“It’s more relaxed,” he said.  To incoming freshman, Smith’s advice is to, “do your homework and everything will be easy from there.”

Of all the classes he’s taken, Smith said that his favorite subject is physics, which has influenced him to consider future studies in engineering.  While he enjoys the subject of physics, his favorite teacher by far is Ms. Wiedemann.

“She’s really awesome and personable… and I’ve had her for three of the four years and I’ve gotten to know her.”

As a Sentry veteran, Smith has written many interesting articles.  His favorite section to read and write for is the opinion section.  Smith enjoys writing in the first person and getting his ideas across to the reader.  In his opinion, this style of writing is much more interesting than writing for sections like the sports section.
