Matthew Cornfield, better known as Cornfield or Matty C to The Sentry Staff, is the newest edition to the paper. A fun-loving, friendly sophomore, Cornfield loves the sports programs and social aspects of school. Cornfield hates unloading the dishwasher and can always be seen joking around with his friends. Although the new reporter does not enjoy reading much, his English class with Sentry advisor Chrissy Wiedemann encouraged him to join the paper.

An avid sports player and watcher, Cornfield enjoys playing golf and basketball.

“I like all of the Washington teams and LA teams because that is where my family is from,” Cornfield said of his favorite sports teams.

It is also no surprise that Cornfield’s role model is a sports player like himself.

“I really like Larry Fitzgerald, he is a football player who I have liked since 3rd grade and he is a really good guy and football player,” Cornfield said.

Cornfield loves the movie The Godfather and the TV show The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. If he could only eat one meal for the rest of his life it would be lasagna, despite being lactose intolerant.

“It is really a struggle,” Cornfield said on the subject.

A real dog lover, Cornfield has a dog named Dixie and would want to get another one if he was able to get any pet.

“I would name it Malachai or Lightning,” Cornfield said.

Although Cornfield loves Arlington, Boston is be the place he would want to live if given the choice.

“I’ve been [to Boston] a few times and I really like the area,” Cornfield said.

Seeing that Cornfield describes himself as handsome, intriguing and flawless, it is clear that he will fit in perfectly at The Sentry.

Jessie Moyer will be a junior this year and will be experiencing her second year with the Yorktown Sentry. As our discussion began, we realized, coincidently, that we both have the same birthday of October 14. Jessie is a part of the Yorktown Tennis Team and enjoys the sport and the competition. Moyer has one sibling, a twin sister, at Washington Lee high School.

Moyer enrolled in Journalism because she wants to be a journalist in the future. It is clear that Moyer is a bright student who has a knack for writing. She is articulate and witty and has a passion for reporting.

“I would say I am easygoing, kind and friendly,” Moyer said, when asked to describe herself in three words.

Another topic brought up during the interview was the question of how she would spend her lottery winnings of 18 million dollars.

”I would make sure that I have enough money to go through college, save some, and donate to any deserving charity,” Moyer said. It is clear that education is an important and valued right of Moyer’s life.

Her favorite movie is The Breakfast Club, an old-time classic. A heartwarming story about five kids from different backgrounds in detention under a power hungry principal.

Our discussion became heated when the debate over Goldfish and Cheez-Its began. Surprisingly enough, Moyer believes that Goldfish are tastier and superior to Cheez-Its because they do not get your hands dirty. She also brought up that Goldfish are cuter, and who does not like a snack that smiles back?

Any member of The Sentry would be lucky to work with Moyer. Hard working and smart, she is a valued member of the journalism team.
