From studying to sweeping it into the back of the net, senior and sports editor Maddie McNamee can do it all. Although she may seem like the average high schooler, she has a vibrant and colorful personality hidden beneath the surface.

“I’m a bright, wild person, but there are other parts to me that people don’t know,” McNamee says.

Before rejoining The Sentry staff this fall, McNamee savored her final break before senior year. She spent the sweet summer days lounging by the lake in Wisconsin, exploring beaches on the coast of Hawaii, and unwinding at National’s Park. In any conversation with her, the topic of baseball is for sure to be heard.

“Everyone knows I am obsessed with the Nationals. I love baseball,” McNamee says when the sport is brought up.

Although once timid about it, McNamee embraces herself as quirky and also talks of her ambition and initiative in her schoolwork.

“I set a lot of goals for myself, and when I do that I really want to work hard to achieve them, not because of other’s pressure, but for my own self drive that I really want to meet,” McNamee says.

When she is not hitting the books, you can find McNamee at Greenbrier field with the varsity field hockey team. After she takes off number twelve, she loves having car jams with her best friends and journaling in Paper Source notebooks. While sometimes she may have it all together, the senior laughs in admitting that it is not always that way.

“I tend to freak out a lot and stress over little things,” McNamee says.

Although she has an evident personality of hard work and diligence, McNamee likes to keep life easy-going, light, and sometimes even a bit awkward. She never takes herself too seriously, senioritis and all.

With the sweet addition of sophomore Caroline Boda to The Sentry family, good times never seemed so good. The self-described outgoing, diligent and adventurous sophomore spent her summer doing what she loves most: travelling.

“I went to Tennessee with my family and I went to Nashville and that was really cool. The Nashville culture is really cool with the music down there, so I really liked that. I also went to New Orleans, Louisiana with some friends and that was really fun,” Boda said.

Boda’s journeys have stretched outside of the country as well. Her favorite place is England, and she has even had the chance to live there.

“I lived in England when I was younger. I don’t really remember much, but we have been back there and I really enjoyed that. I love London, and we lived in Oxford and I really just like England,” Boda said.

While Boda has been to some incredible places both in and out of the country, she is able to make an adventure out of just about anything. Boda has the right attitude and knows it is not about where one is, but rather what they are doing and what new memories they are creating.

“I like travelling and going to new places, like to different countries and cities and stuff but also just in Arlington. I like doing new things,” Boda said.

Boda proved her true potential when she let out her inner Harry Potter nerd. As the true fan and literature enthusiast she is, Boda obviously chose the books over the movies.

“Definitely books. The movies, they’re just not real. The books are so much truer to the story and they are the original. I just really love Harry Potter. I love Sirius, I mean who doesn’t. Also Ron is great,” Boda said.

While some may struggle with the difficult decision of Chipotle burritos or burrito bowls, Boda has her priorities straight.

“Definitely burrito bowls. I don’t like beans or rice and I’m always judged for not putting them in, but I don’t even like the burrito part,” Boda said.

Being the smart girl she is, Boda wisely chose not to comment on her favorite head editor. Although it is a question many may be dying to hear the answer to, Boda chose to stay impartial when asked “Jackson or Alex?”

“I don’t know. Um, pass?” Boda said.

Boda has a personality that can make just about anyone smile. She radiates happiness and brings only good vibes to the school, which is something that will only help brighten up eighth period in room 249. The Sentry welcomes Boda to the staff with open arms.
