Jackson Cummings and Kyle Mayo-Blake

Jackson Cummings and Kyle Mayo-Blake

As a semi-professional grilled cheese artist, senior Kyle Mayo-Blake is a living contradiction to the idea that guys can not cook. The cuisiner is indeed living, despite his near-death experience with longboarding this past summer. According to Mayo-Blake, he attempted to go down a hill in the dark. Unfortunately, he failed.

“I realized … I was not good enough at longboarding to go down a hill,” said Mayo-Blake.

While he may not be the world’s best longboarder, Mayo-Blake has other talents. The master chef can roll his tongue and is almost a black belt. According to Mayo-Blake, he has studied martial arts for over twelve years, and even knows kung-fu.

“I won a kung-fu tournament … [when] I was 10,” said Mayo-Blake. “There was a lot of controversy around it because I was facing a female. I did a kick and hit her in the stomach pad … and she started crying.”

Despite this, he has no regrets. Some say that he might even be the next karate kid.

Mayo-Blake is a strong writer with a passion for journalism.

“I want to go to college for journalism and film” said Mayo-Blake.

To prepare for his future career, Mayo-Blake spends a lot of his free time writing.

Mayo-Blake is a very active person. This summer, he was a Counselor In Training (CIT) at a camp for five weeks. He also spent his summer with the marching band, as an avid player of the tenor saxophone.

All in all, Mayo-Blake is a very talented, friendly and unique person. The Sentry is more than delighted to have such a quality student joining the ranks.

Sometimes big personalities come in small packages-that is exactly what you get when you meet Jackson Cummings, business manager of the Yorktown Sentry. Jackson’s energy and enthusiasm is immediately apparent. He always gets people laughing with his goofy sense of humor.

When asked about what he thought of Vine, “I think it’s a pretty cool platform, I think a lot people have done a lot of cool things with just the limitation of six seconds.” said Cummings

Cummings also divulged how pie is far superior to cake.

“Apple is pretty much my favorite dessert ever,” said Cummings.

Cummings had a good amount to say when asked  about the raising popularity of socks.

“I don’t know how to answer that, I would say they’re not, I mean yeah I guess they’re overrated. There’s so much hype, everyone is always wearing Elites and stuff,” said Cummings

This question then led into us discussing the school’s dress code and whether or not the school should have one.

“ I guess yes, I mean there kind of is, it’s important that no one shows up to school naked,” said Cummings. After this the age old question of cool ranch vs. nacho cheese Doritos sprang up.

“Cool ranch for sure,” said Cummings

When asked about his most disappointing moment in his life, Cummings had to ponder on his answer for a while but ultimately went with when his parents told him Santa Claus wasn’t real. After this Jackson was asked if he could recite the alphabet backwards.

“Absolutely not,” said Cummings.

Jackson then tried to see how far he could get; he made it up to w succesfully.

After this the drinking oldest question in the book was asked about America’s favorite sodas, Coke or Pepsi.

“Coke,” said Cummings.

When asked if he were to be given one million dollars but every time he spent some of the money he would have to lick the dollar.

“Yeah I would do it, what are the bills in?”

The final question centered around what Jackson thinks his best quality is.

“I would say I consider myself pretty funny, I think I’m a pretty funny dude,” said Cummings
