Senior and Sentry Photography Editor Anna Finley, described as endearingly “wacky” by friends and family, is the type of person who wants to be a superhero because it is in her nature to help people. This aspect of her personality is illustrated most fully in that she plans to study pre-medical in college, and then go to medical school. She is most interested in neurobiology.

“Right now my top choice is University of Washington in Seattle …. My family is always reminding me it is on the west coast …. Other than that I am applying to Indiana, Michigan State, Michigan [and] Christopher Newport,” Finley said.

Her summer was spent at a pre-med program, and she had the privilege of seeing an old friend again.

“Over the summer I visited my friend in Fort Lauderdale that I had met at a pre-med program the summer before, and I stayed with her and her family for ten days …. That was probably the best thing ever, because I had never really had something like that where I hadn’t seen one of my friends in over a year, so being able to see her again was so much fun,” Finley said.

She lived in London for two years when she was younger, and she found that to be the best experience of her life. She loved London and she would want to go there and travel around other parts of Europe and photograph as well.

Finley would rather travel back in time than forward in time in order to reset events that she did not want to happen, and also to watch either the moon landing on television, or the Olympic hockey game in which the United States beat the Soviet Union. However, she does not want to mess up the past and cause a ripple effect that causes her to not be born.

In her free time, Finley likes to read books and hang out with friends.

“I do a lot of reading, I don’t know if there is a specific kind of genre that I really like, but books like The Lovely Bones, and Things Fall Apart, It’s Kind of a Funny Story, books like that,” Finley said.

Finley has a wide range of talents, from singing in her car to playing instruments.

“I can play guitar and piano, but I stopped lessons for both of those a while ago …. Piano I started in first grade… one of my friends knows [guitar] so they attempted to teach me some things that I never really picked up,” Finley said.

The paper knows Finley as the photo editor, so of course, she has long had a love of photography.

“Photography I kind of got into around 7th or 8th grade. I know it was definitely by 8th grade, because I was on the Yearbook staff for my middle school …. I took Photography I… sophomore year, and then I got into journalism junior and senior year,” Finley said.

The Sentry looks forward to Finley’s work as photo editor.

Junior Elizabeth Noe may be starting a new school year, but she’s no stranger to The Sentry. She was a reporter last year and is back for her second year on staff. Looking forward to the future, If Elizabeth could get into any school, she chose Georgetown University or University of Virginia because she “like[s] the D.C. area and would like to work there at least for a short time.” However at her ten year high school reunion, we could expect her to be living on the west coast.

“I would love to live somewhere that’s gorgeous,” Noe said.

The Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro had numerous events to spark conversation and some debate. With a variety of events that get people acting more patriotic than ever, adding a new one would be a once in a lifetime opportunity. If given the chance, Elizabeth would add “box folding, or gift wrapping. I think it’d be hilarious to see who can hold the world record to pop up and fold boxes.”

Whether this potential Olympic event would be a winter or summer one is still up for debate, it is certainly something that would grab the attention of those watching.

American spirit can be found in a variety of topics, from sports to food. Fast food, especially burgers, are a staple in American culture. Some people prefer just cheese, while others load them up with ingredients like bacon and onions.

“If I were to only get one, you gotta go for the standard cheese,” Noe said.

Not including the cheese is a bold move according to Noe, “It makes it a little more yummy, get a little more texture in there. You gotta add that in, otherwise it could be a little dry and I can’t take that risk.”

“When I was a little kid, my dad would write a lot just for his job … I would go over [essays] with him,” Noe said. She’s been around writing for most of her life, and she says she owes is all to her parents.

“I like to daydream a lot and just think about things … I started to write just for myself … and I thought, ‘wow, I really like doing this,’” Noe said.

Being a writer, it’s not uncommon to find a love for reading. It’s easy to relate to characters, and being friends with one is something we have all thought about. Noe would want to be friends with Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice because “she is sassy and witty and cool” and “sticks it to to the rude people.”

One thing is for sure, The Sentry has a lot to look forward to as Noe takes on her second year on staff.
