Fourth Quarter Fashion

With the start of fourth quarter comes the inevitable lack of motivation, especially when it comes to picking out outfits for school. Whether it be because of the warm weather, the excessive tests or just plain laziness, casual and comfy looks are definitely a popular option for students. The outfit that best embodies the spirit of fourth quarter would be “unwashed norts, the shirt that I slept in, a messy bun and either vans or chacos,” said junior Sofia Scott. Here are a few of the trends that students will assuredly be rocking over these next couple months.

Oversized t-shirt and norts (Nike shorts)

This trend is certainly a favorite among the girls of the student body. Huge tees are roomy, comfy and casual, thus reducing the amount of annoying clothing adjustments that often have to be made throughout the day with most outfits. Another advantage of this style is that one can just rummage through their dad’s, brother’s, uncle’s, or grandpa’s closet to find a suitable tee, no shopping necessary. It’s a win-win.

Sweatpants

Although the sweatpants trend is not exclusive to fourth quarter, they have slowly started to gain social acceptance.

Junior Matthew Sullivan was seen sporting this look today and said, “I think you reach that point where you just don’t care how you look; you just want to throw on some sweatpants and be comfortable.”

Some select individuals choose to wear their sweats as a fashion statement by rolling mid-calf socks over them. Freshman Jay Maddox, who showed off this trend today, said, “It’s mostly for lacrosse players . . . It’s kind of just an excuse to wear sweatpants.”

During AP exams and finals, sweatpants offer the sense of comfort and warmth that everyone desperately needs during this time of stress and misery.

Birks and chacos

“Socks and chacs . . .okay to wear to school. Your feet get cold, I understand,” said Scott.

While some say that Birkenstock sandals should only be worn by hippie, middle-aged dads and that chacos should only be worn by outdoor adventure camp counselors, others would disagree. Birkenstocks and Chacos are both versatile and cute, but watch out for strange tan lines. Pair these sandals with a funky pair of socks to spice things up.

Unbrushed hair

Let’s be real, nobody has the time or motivation to style their hair every single day, and sometimes opting for the unbrushed look is the best alternative. Staying up late cramming for tests results in late, and rough, mornings. It is understandable that most students would rather skip the brushing and straightening than have to wake up early. There are countless ways to dress up a mangled mane, such as with a messy bun, a braid, or a baseball cap. Sometimes unbrushed hair can even pass for glamourous beach waves if you are lucky. Likewise, tons of boys have been growing out their hair this year, so messy mullets and man-buns are to be expected.

No-strapping

Backpacks are so last quarter. Simply carry a fashionable folder (and maybe a pencil) around! Not only can the folder act as a stylish accessory, but it also holds all the most essential materials one would need for fourth quarter. So if your backpack is lost or causing agonizing back pains, ditch it.

Short shorts (not just for girls!)

This year, teen boys are taking “sky’s out, thighs out” to a whole new level. Chubbies shorts are a crowd pleaser during this time of year because there are countless colors and patterns available, ranging from the all time favorite American flag design “‘mericas,” to the classy and simple salmon palmers.

Happy fourth quarter, and remember to always roll into school with style.
