It is December and you all know what that means: holidays, winter break, an overdose on holiday music, snow (hopefully) and, most importantly, New Year’s resolutions. If your resolutions for 2015 did not go quite as planned, you are not alone. Many face this problem year in and year out, making vague and unattainable goals they want to achieve the coming year, but never following through. It is time to break the cycle. Here are a few tips to ensure 2016 is your best year yet!

Be Unique

Most people have the same goals every year: “I want to be healthier!” or, “I want to get better grades!” Of course you want that, who would not? The new year is about creating a new you, however, so try to think of something outside of the box. Maybe this year you want to write down your favorite memories to reflect on at the end of the year. Perhaps you want to learn how to play a musical instrument. Aiming to be unique will ensure that you will step out of your comfort zone and become the multidimensional person you can be.

Finally Do it

There are so many things in life that are worth pursuing, yet oftentimes they escape you. This may be because it takes too much effort, or simply because there never seems to be enough time to actually begin. The new year is the perfect time to focus on becoming accomplished! If there is something you have been meaning to do for a long time, make it happen!

Write it Down

In order to make sure you stick to your resolution, write your goal down somewhere you will see it everyday. Whether this be in your room, in your phone or your assignment notebook, a daily reminder of what you want to accomplish is the best way to stick to it!

Make a Plan

All goals you have may seem a bit ambitious at first, so cut them down. Make specific small specific steps you can do every day to work up to your full resolution. This way, you will not be overwhelmed with doing something all at once.

Get a buddy

Making yourself accountable is one of the best ways to encourage yourself to get things done. Get someone to help track your progress and yell at you when you feel like quitting. This way you can not convince yourself another slip up is okay, something we all are guilty of doing.

Do Not Give Up

Perhaps the most important tip is to never give up on your goal. The power is in your hands to achieve anything you want. Even if you make mistakes, you can always get back up and try again to accomplish your resolution!

With all of these things in mind, 2016 can be your best year yet. The most important thing to remember is you are doing this for you! Bettering yourself will only make you happier so any effort you put in is worth it. You can do it!
