Artist of the Month: Emily Villatoro

Artist of the Month: Emily Villatoro

The sports department better watch out because the arts are taking over. Artist of the Month is a new program Yorktown this year where competitions are held every month throughout the school year. The winning piece is chosen by a committee of teachers, students, parents and guest judges. This selection committee changes with every competition, so there is always a variety of opinions and personal preferences that goes into to selecting the best artwork submitted. The first winner of this competition is AP art student, senior Emily Villatoro. Described as “a talented, hardworking, and bright” by art teacher Virginia Teaford, Villatoro was rightfully chosen. Her work, along with the work of the four runner-ups (Zulhumar Adil, Stephanie Schofield, Camille Xue and Cal Birgisson), is displayed in the back hallway near door 8. They are all certainly worth taking a look at.

    Hi there Emily.
Your expression and sentiments that I see in your work has a resounding truth to how I often see myself. I suspect my visible and tougher self is a proctector of my more vulnerable less revealed self.

Hope to see more of your art on display soon!
Thanks and may joy be yours to share with us all!!!
