Grace Stroup and Caroline Boda

Grace Stroup and Caroline Boda

Just three weeks ago freshman Caroline Boda was soaking up the sweet days of summer as her favorite season came to a close. With school schedules and volleyball games, she is in full swing at her first year at Yorktown and sat down and talked about how she experienced the first two weeks.

“You have to manage your time better, and there’s a lot more homework and studying,” said Boda.

It seems as though she is ready for the year. With her older sister gone she is an only child for the time being.

“It’s been a lot quieter you know, because I am an only child now.” However, she and her sister have spoken on the phone.

Boda has to have big hopes for the future outside of her life in Arlington, as her favorite place in the world is London.

“It would be fun to live there one day,” said Boda.

Overall, Boda  is energetic, outgoing, and already involved in the school community.  She is on the freshman volleyball team this fall.  Boda loves summer and would choose the beach over the mountains any day of the year.

“I like to be in warmer weather and we go to Delaware in the summer,” said Boda.

In her spare times she enjoys her time with friends and likes getting into a great book.

“I like to hang out with friends or watch movies or read,” she said.

Boda is a huge fan of music as well, her favorite artists being Taylor Swift and Zac Brown Band.  In her second week of high school she is fitting right in and hopefully leading her team to many more victories. Although Boda may look exactly like her older sister, she is a character of her own and will no doubt excel and enjoy the next three sweet years.

Outside of homework and school, Grace Stroup, junior reporter for The Yorktown Sentry, balances her free time with her love of sports, reading books and listening to music. This year, Stroup plans on playing for both the girls basketball and tennis teams. While pumping up for games or just hanging out with friends, Stroup always has the tunes playing. Some of her favorite artists are Taylor Swift and One Direction.

Before rejoining the staff this September, Stroup had a busy summer of travelling, including a trip to London and Rome as a gift for her sixteenth birthday. She also toured the city of Montreal, Quebec with her best friend. Stroup’s love of travelling has always had an essential role in her life. Last summer break, Stroup went to Africa to serve in Tanzania as a part of a mission trip. While serving, she was able to spend time with children in need which was a very eye opening experience.

Stroup is a supporter of going outside your comfort zone in order to fully experience what the world has to offer, much like Malala Yousafzai, a huge role model of hers. Stroup finds inspiration in Yousafzai’s courage and bravery to stand up and make a change.

“She’s eighteen and already has a Nobel Peace Prize, all for women’s rights and making sure education is important in third world countries.”

When asked her most embarrassing moment, Stroup could not pick just one.

“I think my life is just like a string of embarrassing moments”, she says.

Stroup’s stress free lifestyle has lead her to experience life to the fullest and learn from the experiences and people that surround her.  The Sentry is lucky to have her as a part of their staff.
