Eiserman’s Letter to Seniors

Eisermans Letter to Seniors

To my Seniors,

Earlier this week, I began to think of something I could give each of you as a remembrance of our time together.  I discarded a number of ideas, realizing any object I might give you would probably get lost over time.  So I settled upon words, hoping that at least some part of them will stick with you longer than any object.

My gift to you, then, is a set of rules to live by.  While not a particularly original idea, these have developed over time, based on both my observations of 33 years of students such as you and my own experiences.  Here they are:

Be kind.

In your words and in your actions.  It’s simpler than you may think and more helpful than you may realize.

Be daring.

Nothing worthwhile happens without some risk.  It is in taking chances that we grow.  So grab opportunities!

Be curious.

Keep asking questions and looking for answers.  Not only does this keep your intellect growing but is how you can move the world forward.

Keep the child within you.

Stay in touch with that childlike awe and delight in the world.  Make time to play!

Make time for reflection.

Give yourself the gift of looking inward to honestly assess what your think and how you feel.

Whether you pray, meditate, run miles or just sit quietly watching the world, it is these moments of reflection that provide the time to listen to the inner voice that will guide you in all things, great and small.

It has truly been a privilege to have you in my classes.  Know that I have faith in each of you to become the best versions of yourselves.  Please stay in touch.  I will miss you!

Sincerely,

Terry Eiserman
