The Truth Behind a Christmas Birthday

The Truth Behind a Christmas Birthday

In our day and age, it is a common misconception that having a birthday on Christmas day is truly the worst thing in the world. As Christmas becomes more and more commercialized, it is easy for people to get lost in a sea of trinkets and toys. People think that the Christmas holiday eclipses the birthday and you are left in the dark at a time that should be about celebrating you, not a fat man sneaking into your house and leaving you gifts that you will most likely regift. I am fortunate enough, and I do mean fortunate, to have been born on December 25, and I would not change it for the world. I am here now telling you the truth about having a birthday on Christmas.

If you are the type of person that actually enjoys the holidays and the winter wonderland of lights from house to house, then you would love to have your birthday on Christmas because in a way everyone is decorating for you too. The lights strung up all over town are blinking “happy birthday to you.” Not only is your own house decked out in festive attire but your whole neighborhood is decorated for your big day. Even the stores in the mall are strung with garlands and lights. These decorations are only a lead up to the all-day festivities on the 25th. In the morning you get to wake up and have an enjoyable Christmas morning with your family as you open presents and sip on hot cocoa. But don’t you hate the part of the day when you are done with the Christmas celebration and now there is nothing to look forward to? Well when your birthday is on Christmas, the birthday celebration is at night and now it is all about you. So that is a day full of fun and it is definitely worth the year-long wait.

Friends and relatives arrive, and they are dressed for a party. Neighbors arrive bearing treats and gifts. And, as if that is not enough, there is always a special dinner just for you! But even after you blow out the candles and finish the cake, a Christmas birthday is not over. For weeks, the stores, neighborhood and the city wear their decorations in honor of your birthday, so in reality a Christmas birthday is more like a “birthweek” or “birthmonth”.

All in all, having a Christmas birthday is very special and I am glad I get to spend my special day with friends and loved ones.
